The First 24hrs in Madrid

Okay, I´m not going to lie. They certainly know how to party here in Madrid. We were out until 7am and were probably some of the first to crash. That´s an exaggeration, we weren´t the first to crash, but I´m super tired. Not going to lie.

Regarding the photos above. The first one is where we ate. A small side street with several restaurants that had outdoor seating. The next photo is a street party that we stumbled upon. There had been some sort of pride fest, so there were lots of freaks out. I´m not judging, I mean there were lots of weird people out and about and dressed interestingly. Mostly, though, tons of people partying in the plaza and on the main streets. Everyone brought their own alcohol. A few small fires. Cops trying to break through to keep the main street Gran Via (a main thoroughfare for the city) cleared. The area was full of people drinking openly in the streets. Naturally, we did find a way to participate. Also, we (mostly me) were approached by several ¨ladies of the night¨ ... and by approached I mean accosted. I don´t know what that´s about, but anyway, we dismissed that situation easily and in a friendly manner, and continued to party and enjoy the atmosphere.

Next, we wanted to go to one of the famous discoteques. We tried a few places and finally settled on Joy. It was several floors of dancing. We met some nice people including Sonia and Anna (sp?) from Brazil. They said that we should go to San Salvador for a better Carnival experience than Rio. They also turned us onto some huge concert festival in town that is several days long. I think that is part of why they came here. Apparently, Bob Dylan, Franz Ferdinand, Lenny Kravitz and more are in town, so we´re going to check that out today. We also ended up talking to two friendly German girls that were velly velly niiice (pictured above). That´s my ugly mug above clouding an otherwise great photo. The girl on the far left is Sophie and the other girl´s name was Lena. They were still studying at university and absolutely loved America. Right now, I´m on four hours sleep, so...

Interestingly, it should be noted that everyone we encountered and spoke to asked if we were going to vote for Obama.
